POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Reading Teacher
FLSA.: Exempt Professional
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold proper state teaching certification .
- Reading endorsement required.
- Two years of successful teaching experience preferred.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and receives program direction from the Director of Instruction and Educational Services. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher work calendar and benefits as provided in the Teacher's Negotiated Agreement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate and implement the District and building reading improvement plans with administrators, staff members, students and parents.
- Use individual student assessment data to construct appropriate reading improvement plans for qualifying individual students.
- Document the progress of individual student reading improvement plans.
- Maintain an accurate log of student and staff support services.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify and implement specific strategies to improve the reading performance of all students.
- Assist administrators in reviewing building assessment data to recommend and support grade level reading improvement goals.
- Assist administrators in reviewing assessment data to recommend and assist in building level professional development which support identified reading improvement goals.
- Identify the resource and educational needs of the school’s parents to support reading improvement.
- Coordinate parent education reading improvement activities.
- Work with building principal to plan budgetary projections regarding the school’s reading improvement plans.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Support the total school program by observing curricular and extra-curricular student activities.
- Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
- Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
- Collaborate with the Director of Instruction and Educational Programs to review and implement program improvements to support the District’s reading improvement goals.
- Assist administrators in the coordination of standardized testing.
